My Health

My health is symbolised by my weight. The bigger the curves or my belly the healthier I look in the eyes of the villagers think I am. If I get sick the clinic will be the last place I go to. Granny's Umhlabelo has the power to heal. If I get any worse then I should considering the possibility of going to the clinic.

Though the local municipality has the clinic on wheels, it does not really matter. Natural medicine according to granny, has no side effects whereas you get hooked in the pills. Yep that headache will keep coming back and it won't go away till you swallow one or two pain killers.

I know little about cancer, dental care, obesity. The main focus has been on HIV related sicknesses. Though my choice is to ignore the teaching about HIV as it has   nothing to do with me. I am not affected, only the people in the city are.

If by any chance I get really sick, then a sangoma is the first person to consult. They have the answers to all my problems. My belief is that one or two traditional ceremonies to thank the ancestors and maybe, just maybe it will all go away.

My health is categorised by my weight. It is in the hands of those who have passed. Modern medicine are my last resort.
